The huge country of South Africa has a wide array of rivers, streams, lakes and dams and every single fisherman, no matter their level of skill or experience, can find the perfect spot to enjoy their favorite sport. There is almost 3000 km of coastline here, so sea fishers will not be disappointed either.

Some of the best spots include:

Dullstroom, Mpumalanga

Dullstroom is considered to be a great place for fly fishing, so spend the weekend (or even a full week) here and enjoy as many of the streams and rivers as you can. There are both brown and rainbow trout here. You can camp out or enjoy a hotel stay, so it can be fun for the whole family.

Breede River, Western Cape

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway then the Breede River on the Western Cape could just be the place for you. The Breede River is over 300km long and takes in both picturesque fishing village sandy wine yards. There are plenty of places along the river to stay; rustic, luxury or basic accommodation, something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Elephant Coast, Eastern Cape

The shallow waters of the Elephant Coast are ideal for those who want to sea fish in some of the most serene landscapes (and seascapes) in the country. You can fish for barracuda, tuna and sailfish amongst others here. The fishing here can be very challenging, so it is not advisable for beginners or those who lack much experience to go fishing here.

Shelley Beach, KwaZulu-Natal

If you want to fish for salmon or bream, the Shelley Beach in KwaZulu-Natal is the place to be. Game fishing is also popular here as there are king mackerel and wahoo in abundance. The Shelley Beach region is also great for hikers and lovers of outdoor activities so if you choose to stay here you have a range of activities to choose from.
